Phase 2 of Marché Buckingham Officially Launched

15 Aug 2025

On August 12, 2025, Forum, joined by Gatineau Mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette, Buckingham Councillor Edmond Leclerc, and numerous dignitaries and partners, officially broke ground on Phase 2 of Marché Buckingham.

Located at the corner of Lépine Avenue and Maclaren Street East, this new milestone for this major commercial hub will enhance the range of services in a rapidly growing area.

In her remarks, Mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette highlighted Buckingham’s strategic importance:

“Buckingham is somewhat like the capital of the Basse-Lièvre. It’s an area that also serves the Petite-Nation, attracting people who come here for quality, local services.”

For Edmond Leclerc, this second phase complements the retail offering already present in the area:

“Lépine Avenue is a commercial street that complements Buckingham Avenue, our traditional and heritage main street. Businesses attract businesses, and this project offers residents more options.”

A Long-Term Vision for Buckingham

Phase 1 of Marché Buckingham has already brought the opening of a Super C grocery store, serving as the project’s anchor. Several well-known retailers, including Caisse Desjardins, National Bank, Familiprix, Mondou, Thai Express, Pizza Pizza, and Alie Ongles, will join the project in Phase 2.

Forum President Dean Mendel recalled the reasons behind the company’s long-term investment in the area and the vision guiding the project’s next steps:

“A few years ago, Forum chose to invest in Gatineau, in the Buckingham sector, because we identified a significant need for local services, strong growth potential, and an engaged community. Phase 1, with the opening of Super C, laid the foundation for a neighbourhood commercial project designed to meet the real needs of residents. The tenants in Phase 2 will fill local needs. Only one unit remains available, but we already have Phases 3 and 4 in our sights.”

These next phases, planned for completion by 2028, will help fulfill Forum’s vision: to create a complete, functional shopping centre tailored to the needs of the community, serving the residents of Buckingham and surrounding municipalities. Phase 2 is expected to be completed by the end of winter 2026.

A Project That Strengthens the Community

For Forum, Buckingham represents a concrete example of collaboration between municipal leaders, commercial partners, and developers. The project reflects the company’s mission: to develop sustainable projects rooted in their communities, fostering local vitality and quality of life.
